Here you will find some of the most frequently asked questions, which will be helpful in better organizing your visit to the library.

Access Mode
  • The bookstore is open every day from 9 am to 7:10 pm non-stop. Access is free, and no reservation is necessary. However, please consider that the spaces are quite limited. A staff member will welcome you and request that you carefully hand-carry backpacks or bags to avoid bumping into shelves or other people. On rainy days, to prevent books and prints from getting wet, please enter with closed umbrellas and remove any capes. If you enter with purchases of similar items (e.g., prints, books) made elsewhere, please inform the staff.
  • Due to space constraints, strollers and wheelchairs are not allowed. To ensure easy access for people with mobility difficulties, you can contact us by phone and arrange a morning visit.
  • Tourist groups and school groups consisting of more than 10 people are required to book in advance, in order to allow proper organization of access to the spaces.
  • Kindly note that our bookstore is accessible on foot only, with no parking or rest areas available. Please refrain from bringing food and drinks into the bookstore or its surroundings. Additionally, smoking, including the use of electronic devices, is strictly prohibited in areas associated with the bookstore.
  • Photography is permitted in the charming exhibition corners, ensuring consideration for the spaces and fellow visitors. On busier days, we kindly request you to move efficiently, creating room for other patrons. Access to bookshelves and stairs is allowed until 5.15 pm.
  • Within our premises, you may find our cats freely wandering. Small dogs are allowed in owners' arms or suitable carriers. For safety reasons, it's advisable to keep medium to large-sized dogs waiting outside. We do not intend to discriminate against any animal, but consider that cats are territorial and defend their space.
  • In the event of rain, low tide, high tide, or whenever deemed necessary by the management, the book staircase and the gondola will be closed, and access will be prohibited.

Presentations & Book Signings

Due to space limitations, we cannot host book presentations. However, we can organise book signings for volumes related to Venice.

We do not provide a shipping service. However, you can arrange in-store pick-up with your trusted courier to receive your purchases.

How can I pay?

We accept credit and debit card payments via Stripe (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and bank transfers.
Payment by bank transfer requires the funds to be credited before the order is dispatched.

Are they original brands?

Yes! All the products sold in this shop are official Libreria Acqua Alta brand items. They are the very same items youโ€™ll find in the physical bookshop in Venice.

Is there a minimum order?

For magnets, the minimum purchase is 3 items, even if they are different models. For all other products, there is no minimum order.

What is the return policy?

Want to return a product?

You have the right to withdraw from the contract within 14 days of receiving your order.

Here are the steps:

  • Request a return through the website: Go to our ย page and fill out the form by entering your order number and the item you wish to return.

  • Receive instructions: Once you submit the form, you will receive an email with our warehouse address and all the detailed instructions for shipping.

  • Prepare and ship the package: Carefully pack the product (in its original packaging, if possible) to prevent any damage during transit. Ship the package to the address you received in the email.

    • Note: Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer, as stated in our terms of sale.

  • Product verification: As soon as the package arrives at our warehouse, we will verify the integrity of the product (usually within 24-48 hours of receipt).

  • Issuing the refund: If the product is intact and complete with all its parts, we will proceed with the refund based on the payment method you used for the purchase:

    • If you paid by Credit or Debit Card (Stripe): The refund will be automatically issued to the same card used for the purchase. You will see the credit on your statement within 5-10 business days (depending on your bank).

    • If you paid by Bank Transfer: We will issue the return transfer directly to the bank details (IBAN and account holder name) that you entered in the return form. The credit will be in your account within 1-2 business days from issuance.
